Employee Spotlight – Mike Reiskis
Our Employee Spotlight this month is on Mike Reiskis. Mike is a Director of Business Development at CU Engage. While Mike has been with the company for less than a year, his impact radiates through the team. Mike has brought a wealth of knowledge to the team and is passionate about learning new things about the industry as well.
A Clean Game
Mike is from Maryland but now lives in Illinois with his lovely wife. In fact, Mike says his top three life highlights are “meeting my wife and the birth of my boys, and nothing else compares.” Mike is definitely happiest when he is with his wife, no matter what they are doing. When he isn’t working or hanging out with his wife, Mike enjoys bowling and even has several perfect games to his name. He also likes to tinker around on home improvement projects and work on his Jeep. Basically, if he has a tool in his hands, he’s a happy guy.
Mike is known around the office as a walking encyclopedia of core knowledge. He is Funny, friendly, and easy-going, and always willing to chat about almost anything. He is persistent in his pursuit of learning all he can and has a genuine desire to build rapport with coworkers and clients alike. Mike appreciates his coworkers as much as they appreciate him. He told us “My colleagues are amazing. Everybody pitches in.”

Q: What is an ability you wish you had? A: Superpower=Time Travel. Real Ability=Taskmaster.
Q: What is on your bucket list? A: Drive to Alaska.
Q: What book did you read last? A: I read on planes so it’s been a while – John Adams by David McCullough
Q: What celebrity do people think you look like? A: When I had hair, Nicholas Cage. Now, when I put on sunglasses, Mr. Clean.
Q: What is your favorite 90’s jam? A: Pearl Jam. Alive. 1991.
Q: What is your personal brand statement? A: Integrity always. Do the right thing, every time. Especially when nobody is looking.
Q: How did you come to work here? A: I know the founders. They have integrity and this marketplace needs that.
Q: What is your guilty pleasure? A: Ice cream, in some form, every night.
Q: If you could only have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? A: Pizza.
Q: What is your definition of success? A: Raising children who support themselves and respect other people.
Q: If you could pick one theme for CU Engage to turn into a book about the company, what would you choose? A: Collaboration.
Q: Best vacation you’ve taken? A: A road trip to Mount Rushmore.
Q: Are you messy or organized? A: Not nearly as organized as I’d like to be.
Q: Do you have an office nickname? A: Risky. But it used to be Shiny.
Q: When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried? A: The movie, The Hangover.
Q: What would the title of your autobiography be? A: Damn. That was quick.
Q: Weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? A: Snails; I didn’t like them and I won’t eat them again.
Q: What was your first concert? A: Aerosmith and REO Speedwagon. 1975.
Q: What does true leadership mean to you? A: Helping people align their talents with a clearly understood mission and setting an example.
Q: What is on the radio in your car? A: Sirius Lithium or Fox Business Channel.
Q: Best advice you’ve ever been given? A: Live within your means. I haven’t always followed it, but it’s the best advice I was ever given.
Q: Have you ever met anyone famous? A: I met Mike Lindell, The “my pillow” guy this year.
Q: Advice for new hires? A: Ask for help if you need it.
Q: Describe CU Engage in 5 words or less: A: High energy boutique.
Q: If you could learn to do any one thing, what would it be? A: Play guitar.
Q: When you have 30 minutes of free time, what are you doing? A: Taking a walk in the neighborhood (maybe I should be learning how to play the guitar)
Q: What chore do you hate? A: Making the bed. But I do it.
Q: Are you a hunter or a gatherer? A: Mostly a hunter.
Q: If you were the newest crayon in the box, what color would you be and why? A: A deep very dark rich purple because it would look great on a 1972 Chevelle SS.
Q: What are your pet peeves? A: People who don’t appreciate how lucky they are to live where they live in the window of history in which they are living.
Q: What was your favorite book, toy, or outfit as a child? A: Dr. Suess. Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose and my Erector Set.
Q: Is the glass half empty or half full? A: Usually half full, but it depends on what is in the glass.
Q: What is one thing about you few people know? A: I once had hair.
Q: What makes you laugh? A: Dry wit.
Q: What inspires you? A: People before me, who do not know me, who gave up so much so I could have opportunity.

Q: Do you have a motto or a mantra? What is it? A: It’s cliché, but do unto others…
Q: What would you do if you won the lottery? A: Buy a small RV and travel the US with a printed map, no timetable, and avoid the interstates.
